Fear Friday Review

So what did everyone think of this weeks Fear Friday selection "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane"? While this movie was a little slower pace and not a huge gore factor (compared to most of today's movies) I found it creepy and suspenseful in it's simplicity. The look and feel of the movie is the real winner here. Set in the middle of nowheresville Texas our teens spend the night in an old southern styled mansion that looks so out of place in the desolate landscape. The movie had a slight worn and occasionally blurred look to it that added to the feel.

There were plenty of things here that lend to a fun horror film. Signs that say "Last gas for 150 miles", lonely back roads, excessive drug use, lots of cat fights, alcohol, sex, firearms, bodies strategically placed for final scene and a nice big twist at the end. All in all I enjoyed it.

  • Did this movie make you jump, yawn or laugh? There was a little jump and a little laugh. While it was a bit slower pace it was an interesting watch with a little cheese factor for laughs.
  • Did you like or dislike the monster/villain? I didn't find him all that interesting until the twist came then the Villains become more interesting to watch.
  • If you were one of the characters in the movie which one would you be? I would really hope I was none of these characters. They were really an unlikable bunch but I guess that's why we don't mind seeing the disappear one by one.
  • If the monster/villain could have had one superpower what should it have been? One of our villains seemed to already have superpowers. They ran super fast and had the power to charm their victims. What more do you need?
  • What was the best line or scene in the movie? Best line...While everyone is sitting in the living room not really bothered by the fact that two of their friends have gone missing, Chloe has a sudden over the top outburst regarding one of them. "He's drunk and he's in a truck and he's got a gun. OK, that's bad!" Well said Chloe.

So let hear what you thought.

Fear Friday is here

Fear Friday Selection for 5/29

This week we are gonna jump ship and go with a modern slasher film. I present to you "All The Boys Love Mandy Lane". I don't believe this ever saw the light of day in the theater here in the States but came out not too long ago on dvd. So there should be no problem finding it to rent.

Short tag about the movie...
"A group of high schoolers invite Mandy Lane, a good girl who became quite hot over the summer, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch. While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to drop quite mysteriously."
Hate it when that happens! So go find it, watch it and meet back here Saturday with your answers all ready to go.

Fear Friday Review

So what did everyone think of this weeks Fear Friday selection "The Mummy"? Here's my answers to this weeks questions....
  • Did this movie make you jump, yawn or laugh? I would have to go with a little Yawn. I really like the movie but it is a very slow pace and there isn't as much cheese as others.

  • Did you like or dislike the monster/villain? I liked this monster. He doesn't show much emotion and he's very dusty, but one can't hold it against him. Buried alive for love and after all those centuries she says "No thanks". Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

  • If you were one of the characters in the movie which one would you be? Oh, I'd probably end up being the idiot who opened the box that he wasn't supposed to touch and went mad from seeing the Mummy walk off with the ancient scroll. Oops!

  • If the monster/villain could have had one superpower what should it have been? Imhotep/Mummy had quite a few neat tricks. Being immortal, lots of Eygptian spells and curses, a magic pot of water and a ring that seemed to do things to people when he pointed it at them. So I thought maybe the ring could have livend things up a bit and shot out laser beams or something like that.

  • What was the best line or scene in the movie? Best line was when Frank was telling Helen about raiding the Princess's tomb. She turns to him, horrified, and says "How could you do that?" Frank, almost giddy beyond belief and drooling with excitement at the thought of it all, replies "Had to! Science ya know." Wow...What a catch!

So take a moment and post your thoughts on it here.

Fear Friday Title

This weeks Fear Friday movie selection is the 1932 version of "The Mummy." I thought we'd keep with the classics in honor of a new bracelet I have been working on. This movie stars Boris Karloff as our main character. We'll use the same questions as last week.
  • Did this movie make you jump, yawn or laugh?

  • Did you like or dislike the monster/villain?

  • If you were one of the characters in the movie which one would you be?

  • If the monster/villain could have had one superpower what should it have been?

  • What was the best line or scene in the movie?

Alright, see everyone back on Saturday for discussion. Have fun with your Egyptian history! Can't find it...here.

Fear Friday Review

So what did everyone think of this weeks Fear Friday selection "The Creature From The Black Lagoon"? Here's my answers to this weeks questions....

  1. Did this movie make you jump, yawn or laugh? I would go with laugh. With all the 50's stereotypes, bad lines and overall cheesiness it's quite amusing. Which is why I love it so much.

  2. Did you like or dislike the monster/villain? Who wouldn't love this monster. Yes it's a face only a mother could love but who wouldn't be angry and irritable after such a bad lip job. I just adore the Gillman.

  3. If you were one of the characters in the movie which one would you be? I'd like to think I would be our leading lady Kay. Scientist by day...Sexy bombshell by night. Looks great in a bathing suit and does an amazing over the shoulder glance and scream. But I fear I would end up being the Creature. Shuffling around, trying to get peoples attention but instead they just shoot me with pointy sticks.

  4. If the monster/villain could have had one superpower what should it have been? Might have been fun if he was electrified like an eel. Then he could have gone around zapping people.

  5. What was the best line or scene in the movie? Well, for the first 30 minutes of the movie we only saw the Creature's hand along with a very overpowering string of musical notes. Ba Ba BAAAAAAAAA...Hand...Ba Ba BAAAAAAAA...Hand. I found this most amusing. You could have made a drinking game out of it. I also liked the bat that flew at Dave's head at the end. And when approached by the Creature, instead of turning and running, Kay chooses to turn and...fall down. Priceless.

So all in all I really do love this movie. It's always much fun to watch. Post your thoughts on it here.

Let's start the fun! Everyone gather for "Fear Fridays".

So a couple of weeks ago I stopped getting AMC on cable. Now every Friday night they would have Fear Fridays where they would show spooky movies late at night. I started to get sad that I wouldn't get to watch anymore until I realized that I rarely ever ended up actually watching them. It's a great idea but the downfall of AMC is they show the same movies ALL the time. So I came to the conclusion that there were more than enough horror films in my home that I could do my own Fear Friday even without AMC. And what's more fun is watching a scary movie with a big group of people.
Here's how it goes...I'll put the weeks movie pick up on Sunday so we will all have time to find it, rent it, netflix it, etc. before Friday. Watch the movie on Friday ( or any day that works for you. We won't tell) and come back to discuss. I'll have a few fun questions for everyone to answer and share their thoughts on the movie. Then I'll post the next movie up on Sunday again.
Fear Friday can be a wide spread of the Horror genre. From vintage to classic to slasher to thriller to the just plain cheesy. You get the picture. So for this weeks pick I'm starting off with an oldie but a goody in honor of a new charm bracelet I'm working on. This week's Fear Friday selection will be the 1954 classic "The Creature from the Black Lagoon".
So go find it if you don't already own it. If you can't find it just click here
to "borrow" it. Feel free to suggest any movies you'd like to see used. Let's make this a fun way for everyone to share their love of movies.

Do you know who the killer is?

So, I was just about to order a pizza and get ready to watch tonight's episode of "Harper's Island" and I had a fun idea for a little contest. Hopefully I'm not the only one watching it.

"Harper's Island" is a 13 week murder mystery on CBS at 9:00 on Saturday night. It's been going for about 4 weeks now so if you haven't started yet there is still time to get with it. It's cheesy and campy and quite fun to watch. But the real question here is "Can you guess the killer?" Just type your guess as a comment to this post. I'll pick one winner from all the correct answers submitted.

"What do I win?" you ask. Well, you get to be featured on this blog. So if you have your own shop, blog, etc. you will get the chance to have it for all to see. Pictures, some fun questions, etc. Plus, if you have an Etsy shop I will run your Etsy Mini for 2 weeks on this blog. If not Etsy then I can run a button/banner to your shop/blog/etc. instead.

"What if I don't sell anything?" you ask. That's OK. We will just feature you as Vixen of the week. You'll get to tell us a little about yourself (favorite movie, first concert, superhero power) and have your 15 minutes of fame. We'll show a picture of you, your dog, your kid, or whatever you choose. It's all about you!

In addition you will also get 1 entry in July's monthly contest for just guessing. The winner will get 5 entries in July's monthly contest. I believe the show ends in early July so all entries will be for that months contest.

So come join in the fun and see if you can solve the mystery of "Harper's Island".
